Description: Ali Birra is a musician, composer, singer and poet from Ethiopia. He sings in Amharic, Arabic, Harari and Somali, as well as Oromo, his mother tongue. He has been the most important Oromo’s musician, and has managed to promote his popular culture. In 1971, he recorded the first album in the music history of his country. Ali received the Toronto African Merit Award in 1995, and an honorary doctorate from Jimma University in 2010. Today, Ali Birra is a living Oromo legend.
