Description: Pietro Cerone was a priest, music theorist and Italian singer of the late Renaissance. He is famous for “El melopeo y maestro” (1613), a music treatise that has been very useful to know the practices on musical composition existing in the 16th century. In it there is a chapter called “Juegos y música” with four-part songs framed in the squares of a chessboard, using the rules of the movement of the pieces of the game to produce a combination of music notes. | |
