Description: Chavela Vargas was a singer born in Costa Rica, Mexican nationalized. She is considered one of the leading figures of ranchera music and a Mexican national landmark. The lyrics of her songs speak of love and heartbreak, of jealousy and deceptive love, whose pain is enhanced by her torn voice. Chavela was awarded the Grammy Award for Musical Excellence in 2007, and awarded the medal of Order of Isabella the Catholic by the Spanish Monarch.
